Our Strategy

Innovation is a key component to FIMRC’s strategy for providing access to care in the developing world.  FIMRC maintains that each individual has the strength and desire to positively change his or her own health. Often lacking, however, are the resources necessary to make the needed modifications that ultimately result in a higher level of baseline health.

In addition to providing access to medical services using a clinic framework, FIMRC establishes itself as a partner in the community with the singular goal of motivating community members to take an active interest in their own health.  One example of how we accomplish this is by implementing a micro-health insurance program designed to combine the concepts of health incentives with a non-monetary model of health insurance.

FIMRC’s non-monetary model of micro-health insurance is a program that demands a 12-year timeline for implementation given the level of community outreach and health education required to foster a sense of ownership among community members in the early part of the program.  Due to multiple variables that affect program adoption and success, FIMRC modifies the micro-health insurance program to fit the needs and readiness of each community prior to implementation.

By engaging community members to learn about their health in health education sessions and providing incentives for modifying health behaviors, FIMRC’s innovation in how health care is delivered in underserved communities is proving to be an effective strategy.  FIMRC’s continued commitment to developing a comprehensive micro-health insurance program to fit the needs of the communities we serve is a model for replication by other organizations working in similar communities.
